Every January, West Shore Scuba from Enola PA hosts what they call the “Bonaire Invasion”. This year 116 scuba divers and land lubbers descended on the Van der Valk Plaza Beach Resort Bonaire in Kralendijk. It was my third year in a row going with the group. I used to say “I don’t want to be the kind of person where if it’s x week I need to go to y place”. As we get older, we can change and grow. I have realized that even though the place and time may be about the same for the “Bonaire Invasion” the people and certainly the dive sites are unique from year to year.
Day 1, Newark Airport

Day 2, Van der Valk Plaza Beach Resort Bonaire

The first day of a dive trip typically has “check out” dives for divers to tweak their weights or become re-acclimated to diving if they have been out of the water for a while. The Plaza resort has a house reef, 18th Palm. The “check out” dives were done here in the morning since the 18th Palm has plenty of sea critters to see and it is close to the dive shop.
After lunch, some of us went to dive at Batchelor’s Beach dive site. My camera was not working, so I did not get any pictures or video of the dive. I usually have my camera with me on dives, but it is also nice to dive without a camera and just enjoy the scenery.
More about this trip in future posts.
